A Little about Osteoarthritis

The knee has 2 compartments, the inside (medial) compartment and the outside (lateral) compartment. Most of the time, when you get osteoarthritis of the knee, you wear down one compartment more than the other. In a majority of the cases, the inside of the knee wears down more, leading to a bowlegged appearance of the knee in extreme cases (medial compartment OA). Other times, the outside (lateral) compartment of the knee wears down leading to a knocked knee appearance of the knee (lateral compartment OA).

The Ossur Unloader One X Knee brace is designed to take the pressure off the compartment that is more severely worn down. Indications for Using the Ossur Unloader One X Knee Brace

• Moderate to severe unicompartmental (lateral or medial compartment) knee osteoarthritis.
• Degenerative meniscal tears.
• Other unicompartmental knee conditions that may benefit from unloading, such as:  Articular cartilage defect repair Meniscal repair Avascular necrosis Condylar bone marrow lesions Tibial plateau fractures.

X-Small (Short Version Only)	9.8 – 12.2″ (25 – 31 cm)
Small	12.2 – 14″ (31 – 36 cm)
Medium	14 – 16.75″ (36 – 43 cm)
Large	16.75 – 20″ (43 – 51 cm)
X-Large	20 – 24″ (51 – 61 cm)

Measurement: Measure your calf circumference 15 cm (6″) below the middle of your knee (mid-patella) with your leg fully straight and relaxed. If you are at the top of one sizing category, we recommend you select the next sizing up.

Standard or Short Version

Select either a standard or short version based on the information below. Please note, the X-Small is only available in the Short Version.

The Standard version is recommended for patients between 5’5″ and 6’4″ (1,65 and 1.92 meters tall). The Short version is recommended for patients under 5’5″ (1,65 meters tall).

Unload the Medial or Lateral Compartment

If you have medial compartment osteoarthritis as diagnosed by your healthcare professional, you would select Unload the Medial Compartment. Usually your would have pain on the inside of your knee and would be considered bowlegged. If you are not sure, ask your healthcare professional.

If you have latera compartment osteoarthritis as diagnosed by your healthcare professional, you would select Unload the Lateral Compartment. Usually your would have pain on the outside of your knee and your legs would be considered knock kneed. If you are not sure, ask your healthcare professional.

This brace only works if you have only one knee compartment with arthritis either the medial or lateral compartment.  This brace is not designed to work if both compartments have an equal amount of arthritis.  Ask your healthcare practitioner or reach out to us to see if this brace is right for your condition.

When fitting your brace, please be aware, the hinge is placed on the side of the affected compartment.
