Our Portable TENS machine Products are considered a Class II medical device. They are used both by health care practitioners in their practices and by patients at home. TENS units provide pain relief by stimulating the sensory nerves.
The Physio Store carries an extensive line of premium TENS supplies for clinic and for home use. Price variation between the units is often a sign of the quality of current delivered by these units, combined with technology (programs) and robustness of the material and industrial design of the machines. TENS machines work by sending small electrical pulses through the skin via electrodes to the underlying peripheral nerves. TENS is thought to work in two ways. First, “high frequency” continuous, mild, electrical activity blocks the pain signal traveling to the brain. Brain cells perceive pain. If the pain signal does not get through to the brain, the pain is not “felt.” The second way is by stimulating the body’s own natural pain-control mechanism. “Low frequency” or short bursts of mild electrical activity cause the body to release its own pain easers called beta endorphins. Ask your physician or health care provider for more details on this type of electrotherapy equipment.
