The Achilles tendon connects calf muscles to the heel bone and is susceptible to various injuries, including Achilles tendonitis, bursitis, tears, or ruptures. Achilles tendonitis is often seen in runners who increase their exercise intensity abruptly. Bursitis, specifically retrocalcaneal bursitis, involves inflammation of the fluid-filled sac between the Achilles tendon and heel bone, sometimes co-occurring with Achilles tendonitis in a condition known as Haglund’s syndrome. An Achilles tendon rupture, typically caused by overuse, results in a tearing sensation, sharp pain, and may require either surgical or nonsurgical intervention for recovery.

Achilles tendon injuries are commonly treated with products like compression sleeves, orthotic inserts, cold packs, and NSAIDs to manage pain and reduce inflammation. In more severe cases, immobilization with walking boots or casts, and sometimes surgical intervention, may be necessary for optimal recovery.
