Elbow epicondylitis can take a long time to heal. Often seven or eight months and treatment usually requires a multipronged approach, including icing, bracing, anti-inflammatory medications and physiotherapy.
Supports and braces are generally a strap worn 1 to 3 inches below the elbow. Another style is a full-elbow sleeve, with a strap to tighten around the forearm. It isn’t exactly known how they work, but one theory is the braces help reduce tension on the painful tendons. It also may “confuse” nerves into not sending pain signals. You can wear the braces either during activities that cause pain, such as golfing, or throughout the day. You shouldn’t wear them to bed.
